In 1970-something, this cabinet held the biggest screen on the block. Now it holds something more important: two cats and their plumbing.
We painted the solid-wood console in a deep dusty rose, trimmed the old picture window in gold, and lined it with a dark botanical wallpaper of birds your cats can watch but never catch. Behind the upper doors, a tiled bay houses an automatic litter box, out of sight and off the rug. Below, two curtained berths each hold a plush bed. Between them, three drawers with the original brass batwing pulls hold treats, brushes and the receipts for all of it.
We kept the original Quasar keypad because it earned its place. Close the doors and it's a handsome armoire. Open them and it's the best address in the house.
